Some prospective members are concerned about the club’s future with the Point redevelopment where all the clubs situated along the Vetch's waterfront will have to be relocated. The developers have allocated a beachfront site for the clubs which the clubs will purchase at a relatively nominal price.

Once the development of the beach sites is completed, the club will be practically the only access the general public will have to the beach and water in that area – the rest being taken up by hotels and up market developments.

If you do decide to join, your membership will not be "wasted" in anyway as we do not foresee any physical relocation of the club for the next three to five years so you will be able to enjoy your annual membership to its full benefit in any case.

So, the future of DUC is assured as the club members have agreed purchase the land required to build the new club house. The club already has the funds required to do this, so you will not be "hit" by any special levies in the medium term. We could really use your support and input at the club as this will help the club in the future when it comes to negotiating all the final details of the new clubhouse. A club with a strong membership base has a better negotiating position with the developers, municipality and the other water sport clubs. In return, we believe that the members of the new club will have access to one of the best "controlled" beaches and launch sites in Durban, which, in time, may become a sort after facility with limited membership places.
