[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Dear DUC and DSBC Members

This coming week sees a change in activity around the club from surf ski competitions to fishing activity as DSBC and PWC host the National Provincial Bottom Fishing Competition. Anglers from around the country will be converging on the club seeking glory for their provinces.

The competition runs from Monday 12th August to Friday 16th August and will see the tented area of the clubhouse being allocated for the exclusive use of the competitors over this period. The tented area will be out of bounds to members on Sunday 11th as the area will be set up for the competitors.

This week’s menu specials can be found below

Safety at Vetches

The last 5 weeks of surf ski activity around the Vetches reef area has bought to light the need to once again make members aware of the safety procedures when using this popular diving and boating venue. Please refer to the attachments

Of particular importance is the 50m exclusion zone around Vetches reef where all watercraft (including craft with paddles) should steer clear of. All divers and snorkelers should be within the 50m zone and trail a surface marker buoy and water craft should steer at least 20m away from any surface marker buoy that they encounter, especially on the Limestone reef.

In the picture attachment, please note that the surf ski launch zone for PWC has now moved to the bathing area next to the north harbour breakwater.

First Aid Course

While we are on the subject of safety, Durban Undersea Club in conjunction with Umhlanga Scuba, will be holding an Emergency First Response (First Aid) course at the club next week 15th and 16 of August in the evening.

Although this course is aimed at divers, it is an internationally recognised first aid course which is suitable for non-divers or youngsters looking to work overseas, especially on the yachts.

For more details on the course and who to contact, check out the attachment.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
