Dear DUC and DSBC Members
As the barometric high-pressure systems start to establish themselves over SA, we are now heading into those beautiful, calm autumn days that Durban is famous for. The first puff of the chilly land breezes are starting to be felt on the coast in the mornings with light to moderate sea breezes during the day.
Ideal beach days are ahead and consequently the popularity of the sheltered Vetchs beach and launch site will increase for members and non-members alike.
Although the municipality provides public ablutions under the promenade by the lifeguard tower, members of the public are not sufficiently aware of them yet.
Consequently, non-members are making use of the club ablutions with the assistance of our kind and polite members who open doors for anyone who says that they don’t have their access card with them or have “left it behind”.
There are numerous reasons why members should not be opening access doors for people they do not know, among them being the overall safety and cleanliness of the club facilities.
However “challenging “it may be to the inherent kind and accommodating natures that all our members possess, please do not open any access door with your membership access card for anyone you do not personally know.
Head’s up for ALL PWC members re: SA Surf Ski Champs 10th and 11th April
The SA Surf Ski Championships will be held this weekend in Durban and hosted by Pirates Surf Lifesaving Club.
Of importance to note for PWC members is that the start of the races on both days is at Vetches beach and launch site and will be in the morning. On TOP of THAT – the fishing conditions are also forecast to be good this weekend.
So, if you plan to come to the club on Saturday and Sunday morning, please be patient as there will be above normal traffic and lack of parking.
We have asked the pay parking operators to start operations at 6am this weekend and we recommend that you have R25 in cash handy to make use of the pay parking areas this weekend.
Please do not give Wiseman and Kenny at the gate the gears with the usual “I am a paid up member and entitled to free club parking” refrain! They are just doing their best to assist you.
NSRI information evening Thursday 15th April
This event will be an informal information sharing session especially focussed on explaining how the free NSRI app called SafTrax can be downloaded and used by all ocean users when going out to enjoy our respective water sports.
This will be a casual bring and braai event starting from 6pm. You are welcome to come earlier and start braaiing.
We encourage all club members that use the ocean for their activities to attend this event. RSVP is required and the attendees are limited to 40 pax for COVID considerations.
Please RSVP to gm@pwsc.co.za
Fishing Ski Competition 18th April
The fishing paddle ski competition that was scheduled for the 10th April has been postponed till the 18th April as a result:
- Of the activities at the club this weekend
- Not all members were able to have their ski’s inspected on the weekend allocated for inspections.(Which allows them more time to do so)
- And the sourcing of prizes and lucky prizes
The entry fee for the competition is R30 Per angler. All cash collected will be allocated to the prizes.
Briefing will be at 5:30 am on the beach South side of the club.
Only members who display the DUC …….. FS number on their ski’s will be allowed to enter the competition.
For further enquiries please contact Glen on 072 320 4182.
Harbour Discs for water craft.
Watercraft that use the harbour for fishing need a Transnet harbour permit in order to do so. This is also known by members as the “Pink Disc” – which is similar to the “Pink Ticket” you need from your wife to go fishing.
Harbour Permits expire at the end of March each year; however the new discs are not yet available from Transnet. Please see the attachment for more details and the extended validity of the current permits.
