PWC Clubhouse Update 13/04/2022

Dear DUC and DSBC Members

Although the clubhouse came through the devastating storm and flooding relatively unscathed, many of our members and staff did not escape tragedy and destruction.

Our thoughts are with you and hopefully with the support of the community life will soon return to as close to normal as can be under the circumstances.

The club staff are struggling to report for work as transport services and access roads have been severely affected. This may affect the level of service the club will be able to offer members over the coming days and we ask for your patience and understanding in this regard. The normal club services may only be available if sufficient staff are present and if our suppliers are able to deliver.

The club currently has water, electricity (and a standby generator) and the roads in the Point area are accessible. So, if you are looking for a spot to recover or shelter for a while, we are here for you. We also have live music over all four days of the Easter Weekend to help cheer you up.

On a lighter side, after the deluge on Monday, the club social members can now be considered water sport members as well!

EASTER BEACH CLEANUP

Thankfully the tanker seen floating down the Umgeni River has not made landfall on the club beach but a lot of other smaller debris from the rivers and harbour will be washing up on the Vetches beach over the coming days and weekend.

We are offering members (and their guests) a free coffee (or a slush puppy for the kids) for every large refuse bag of debris collected from the beach in front of the clubhouse. On Easter Sunday the kids will get an Easter Egg as well (while stocks last!).

The procedure will be to hand in your full refuse bag to the access control staff at the refreshment kiosk (bait room) at the entrance to the club. You will be given a ticket for every bag handed in which can be exchanged for a coffee or slush puppy at the club coffee counter. Crunchies, cookies or a slice cake to go with your free beverage will be for your own account!

This offer is valid for the Easter Weekend (Friday 15th to Monday 18th) while stocks last.

Please bring your own refuse bags and gloves.

Attention Boating members and skippers

The Port Captain and SAPS Water Wing are concerned about small craft encroaching into the restricted key point areas in the harbour. As a club we are committed to co-operating with the authorities and adhering to regulations and as such any club member or boat that is caught transgressing will face club sanctions as well. Please refer to the attachment for more details.
